Invitations We invited people to respond by mail and whatsapp. We have invited 6 people for our interviews. 2 of these people are medical personnel and the other 4 are people who don’t work in the medical field. The response rate is 100%. We designed the questionnaire together and we sent these questionnaires via mail. We then processed the result of these questions together.
Report answers Lisa Timmer Lisa Timmer is a medical student. She is studying medicine at bachelor level. She is studying at Universitair Medische Centrum Utrecht. This hospital is connected with the University of Utrecht. The changes she wants in the medical world is that it’s very busy and that there aren’t enough people for the work that needs to be done; especially because of corona. This makes her job less fun and there is a higher chance of illness. She likes the fact that the medical world keeps developing and changing so it's never boring. Lisa finds the anatomy of people very interesting and she likes the contact with patients. Miss Timmer thinks that she can do enough for her patients but also the time they get is too limited. The difference in corona time is very big because she missed a lot of lessons. The reason for that is that her school is in the hospital itself and they wanted to keep the infection rate as low as possible, so the students weren’t allowed to go to school. Therefore they had online lessons. The country Lisa thinks is doing a better job at medical care is Switzerland because they have more personnel per person and they have a lot more time for patients and less stress.
Report answer Deborah Duijm Deborah Duijm works in the elderly care and to reach this she did the MBO social care Disabled people Level 4 and at the moment she does MBO nurse VVT. She is now working in home care in Utrecht. The points of improvement she was thinking of were that the executives have to know that work is being done as it should be and that not every task can be done in time and that the communication between the people that they work with could be better and the knowledge of what the people need when they are taken care of. The things that she says are good are that all people in the medical part where she works are equal all though it’s getting less by time. She has chosen to work in the medical world because she was looking for a new job/challenge and when she started working with people with dementia she made the right choice. She likes to work with different people from different backgrounds, personalities and illnesses. She has to treat all the individuals differently. Over the years she has learned that she has to care for her patients as much as she can in the time she has. It has been harder since Corona, because it is a bit annoying to have a mask, and if someone is in isolation she also has to put on an apron with long sleeves, gloves and glasses on all the time. So it becomes very warm especially now when people are using the heating more. She thinks the Scandinavian countries have a good care system, but she doesn’t have experience herself.
Report answers Diana Vriezema Diana Vriezema (46 years old) is a transport planner. She has of course been a patient we asked about her experiences. She thinks that medical care in the netherlands is good because we do a lot of research and there are always medical personnel who will help you. A few of the down sides in the Netherlands in her opinion is that it's most of the time about money and not about the people, that different kinds of medical people don’t work together and that it sometimes takes too long for an ambulance to get to someone. Diana doesn’t have great health. Every Time she has been to the hospital her experience has been good and the people are nice. This really helps if you are in pain. The people in the hospital do a great job but she wouldn’t want to work there because of all the pain and death. But overall she has had good experiences. A country she thinks we have to look up to is Germany because the waiting lists are shorter and they do a lot more preventive care. We live in a little village but we do have a lot of medical facilities like: family medicine doctor, physio, Ortho, dentist and 20 kilometers from our home we have a hospital Report answers Hans Gerritsen Hans Gerritsen(69) worked at the Rabobank in Utrecht and is now retired. We asked him questions about the medical facilities in the Netherlands. He thinks that the medical facilities are at a high level in the Netherlands. There is always a hospital nearby. He also likes that there is a cure for almost every illness. He doesn’t like that there is not really any contact between the patient and the person who is trying to help them. He came in contact with hospitals a lot because of his wife. Because he has retired, he can not work in the medical world. He likes the fact that you don’t have to pay a lot for the health insurance. He really likes how the medical world in the Netherlands is, so he doesn’t know a country with better medical facilities than the Netherlands. In a 15 kilometer radius, there is everything you need for good healthcare.
Report answers Eleni Topali Eleni (45 years old) grew up in Greece, but now she lives in the Netherlands. We asked her how she experienced medical care here. She thinks that the medical facilities are focussed on giving as much care as possible to all people with all financial situations. But some procedures that a patient needs to do are sometimes time consuming. Like first going to a doctor who then sends you to a hospital. For example in Greece, there are specific places where you go in different situations. That way, you don’t have to go to a general practitioner first, but you already know where to go. But overall it’s very good in the Netherlands. Waiting times are short too. For example if you need an ambulance it comes really fast, in 5-10 minutes even. She would like to work in a medical field, but she doesn’t have the qualifications for it. Everything we need is close to our house, that is very nice.
Report Gosia Gawin Gosia (42 years old). She grew up in Poland and moved to the Netherlands when she met her husband and when we asked her what her thoughts were on the medical care here she said that it was much better than in Poland. She first said that the medic care was organised well and that the people who work there listen to the patients very well and because of that she said that there were no things that could be better. The only times that she came in contact with the medic world were just normal things like being ill but nothing really bad. She also doesn’t want to work in the medical world because she thinks that she doesn’t have the persuasion to do it. She also has a good experience with medical care here because she is cared for positively and the people listen to you and give you what you need in case of illness or other things of that kind. “No we don’t need to compare our medical need to other countries” is what she thought of the comparison to other countries. And she didn’t work in the medical world. She said that all the things you need to stay healthy are in the area because there is a dentist and a general practitioner. All in all she thinks that the medical facilities here are better then where she came from
