Main question: How well do the medical facilities meet the needs of the people in your region?
We will be researching medical facilities in the Netherlands. There are 3 main types of hospitals in the Netherlands. There are general hospitals, the ‘normal’ hospital, for less specialised care. Another type is for teaching, a place where people learn how to become a doctor. And the last type is academic, where professionals do their research. If you want to get your prescription medicines, you can only get them at a pharmacy. Medical assistance is easily available. If you call an ambulance, it will come fast. If you have an emergency, even at night, you can call a number which tells you what to do. There are many medical facilities in the Netherlands, so help can come fast from almost any place. In Amsterdam, there is a research centre which focuses on treating cancer. There are quite a few facilities that treat HIV, and a few centres that specialise in cardiac diseases. There are arrangements you can make if you don’t have much income.
